Forget Broja… Wolves could now repeat Pedro Neto success by sealing £17m transfer

Wolves still want to bolster their squad with forward players in this transfer window.

Gary O’Neil has admitted that it is a position he’s looking to improve and this has drawn links to several strikers, including Chelsea’s Armando Broja.

The Blues are looking to shift the 22-year-old out on loan this month and several Premier League sides have shown their interest.

Broja’s future, however, is dependant on whether Chelsea sign another striker this month as Mauricio Pochettino aims to bolster his forward line.

If Wolves were to pursue a deal for the player, it would likely be a loan with an option to buy included.

The signs are there to suggest they should avoid a deal for the marksman, who the Blues value at a whopping £50 million, and instead look elsewhere.

Broja has hardly been prolific across his career so far. A meagre return of eight goals in 58 Premier League appearances doesn’t warrant the price tag placed on his head.

Although a loan deal is financially feasible for Wolves at this moment in time, signing a forward long-term should be the desired option, and O’Neil should look to prise Vitoria Guimaraes winger Jota Silva to Molineux.

Wolves want to sign Jota Silva

According to Portuguese outlet OJOGO, Wolves are one of many European clubs who are interested in securing the signature of the 24-year-old winger.

Jota is currently ripping up in the Premeira Liga at Vitoria Guimaraes and has a release clause of €20 million (£17m).

The report states that the club have been advised to sell the fleet-footed winger due to their weak financial situation, but given he’s mustered 12 goal contributions in all competitions this term, they’ve been told to only allow him to leave if a proposal is considered “irrefutable”.

Although it’s unlikely Wolves could stump up the cash to sign him up currently, the potential sale of Pedro Neto in the summer could open up that window of opportunity.

When Wolves signed Neto as a Portuguese youth international from Serie A side Lazio in 2019, few could have envisaged the impact he would have gone on to have at Molineux, but he has now transformed into at least a £50 million player.

Jota is very similar to Neto in profile. He’s great at penetrating opposition defences with his piercing runs and likes to get in the box at every opportunity.

This is demonstrated by the fact he ranks in the top 18% in the Premeira Liga this season for touches in the attacking penalty box, as per FBref.

He displayed his attacking intelligence in his recent “stellar” performances after scoring in wins over Farense, Boavista and Arouca.

Those displays are why many European scavengers want to prise him away from Portugal.

If Wolves manage to come out on top in that race, Jota – who can also play as a striker – could repeat the heroics of his fellow countryman and become a big hit in the Premier League.
