Don’t rule out Spurs’ – Journalist says what he has heard about striker’s future

The Daily Mirror’s Ryan Taylor has said that contrary to what has been reported by some media outlets, he has heard that Tottenham Hotspur are very much still in the race for Ivan Toney’s signature.

Spurs Web has brought to all the updates regarding Toney’s future and Tottenham’s alleged interest in the striker over the last couple of months,

Some reports over the last few weeks, including an update by The Independent, suggested that while Spurs would love to land the English international, they have been priced out of a move after Brentford demanded £80m for his services.

The publication added that the race for the 27-year-old now looks to be between Arsenal and Chelsea, with the Emirates Stadium alleged to be the player’s preferred destination.

However, in a recent segment on Sky Sports, the centre-forward suggested that he expects to remain at the Gtech Community Stadium this month.

Tottenham still in the mix

Taylor has now revealed that Toney has been on Spurs’ radar for a long time and that it is too early to rule the Lilywhites out of the race for the Bees star’s signature.

The journalist said on The Spurs Chat Podcast: “I have always understood that Spurs are a team that have been looking at Toney, I don’t know if they have the muscle to compete with Chelsea and Arsenal at the end of the season.

“People have shot down Spurs’ interest in Toney, whereas the information I’ve had is don’t rule out Spurs. Although Toney wants to join Arsenal and he would favour that move above anywhere else at this moment in time.”

Tottenham are not going to bid £80m or so for Toney this window but if the striker remains at Brentford until next summer, that would bring Spurs back into the race.

If he does not sign an extension, the 27-year-old would have just one year left on his contract at the end of the season, which means he could potentially be available for around £40m-£50m.
