Cardiff City Interested In Re-signing Premier League Defender

Cardiff City are one of a number of Championship side’s looking at the potential option of signing out of favour Luton Town fullback Ryan Giles on loan for the remainder of the season.

The Telford born defender has registered 11 Premier League appearances this season, only starting five of those games. He hasn’t made an appearance for The Hatters since their 3-2 win away to Sheffield United on Boxing Day.

Cardiff are looking at bolstering  their left-back position, only having Jamilu Collins available, with understudy Callum O’Dowda expected to remain sidelined with injury for a further six weeks.

Giles has fallen down the pecking order at Kenilworth Road, with The Bluebirds looking at brining the attacking left-back in on loan for the second time, having previously loaned him in the first half of the 2021\22 season from Wolverhampton Wanderers, where he made 21 appearances contributing nine assists.

The 23 year-old was recalled by Wolves before being loaned back out to promotion chasing Blackburn Rovers for the remainder of that season. He spent the next season on loan at Middlesbrough, making a total of 48 appearances in all competitions, including helping Boro reach The Championship play-off semi-finals, where they were beaten by Coventry City.

The Wolves academy graduate impressed enough during the season to earn himself a Premier League move, signing for the eventual play-off final winners, Luton Town. Manager Rob Edwards, who gave Giles his first senior appearance during a loan spell at Telford United in 2018, signed the full-back for a reported £5million.

Cardiff manager Erol Bulut will be keeping tabs on the availability of the Luton man, with his side currently sitting 13th in The Championship table, as they look to regain form for a play-off push after a 3-0 hammering at home to Leeds United on Saturday.

It is unclear on whether Edwards will be willing to let him leave, as his side attempt to fight against relegation back to the Championship, currently sitting in 18th position in The Premier League.
