Blackburn told to cash in, Jay Stansfield latest, loan extended

Ipswich will be looking for a strong end to the January window as they bid to win automatic promotion

Ipswich Town’s morale-boosting 2-1 win over Sunderland on Saturday has given the club’s supporters reason to be cheerful ahead of the final two weeks of the January transfer window.

The victory against the Black Cats couldn’t have come at a better time and ended a run of five league games without a win. The win keeps Ipswich in the automatic promotion places, three points ahead of Southampton who have now gone 19 Championship games unbeaten.

The Tractor Boys have made two signings so far this month, signing Lewis Travis on loan from Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers and Jeremy Sarmiento on loan from Premier League side Brighton.

Meanwhile, Kieran McKenna’s side have seen Tete Yengi join Livingston on a permanent basis and winger Kyle Edwards has left the club by mutual consent following his loan spell with Oxford United.

Mckenna will be hopeful of adding a few more players to his squad over the next fortnight or so as they look to seal Premier League promotion. Here is the latest Ipswich Town transfer news…

Pundit urges Blackburn Rovers to cash in on striker amid Ipswich interest

Pundit Carlton Palmer believes that Blackburn Rovers should cash in on Ipswich target Sam Gallagher this month.

Journalist Nick Mashitter has reported on X that the Tractor Boys have had two bids worth £1 million and £1.5 million rejected for the Blackburn man.

Ipswich are looking to sign a striker this month thanks to George Hirst’s injury, although Alan Nixon has reported that Gallagher’s salary “may be a big problem” for the Tractor Boys.

“Blackburn and Ipswich have already done some business this season, with a player going on loan.

“Ipswich need to move on now and get somebody in with the news that George Hirst has picked up a long-term injury, so Ipswich have to bring in another front player, and I’m sure they will go back with an improved offer to sign Sam Gallagher.”

Ipswich Town have been linked with a move for Birmingham City loanee Jay Stansfield this month, according to Football Insider.

It’s evident that the club are keen to sign a striker this month, and the Tractor Boys are thought to be keen on the Fulham youngster who has impressed at Championship level with Birmingham.

A report from Birmingham World last week suggested that it was business as usual for Stansfield at St Andrew’s, despite interest from Sunderland and Ipswich.

However, Alan Nixon reported on Sunday that the Tractor Boys still hoped to prize the player away from Birmingham, despite the Blues hiring his brother in the club’s backroom staff to try and ensure he remains at the club.
