Watford have to act quickly to sign striker for Ismaël – Competition have ‘tested waters’ a lot in recent days
Earlier on this transfer window, the unexpected story that Watford were once again interested in Sassuolo’s Grégoire Defrel emerged.
There hasn’t been a lot of details on the pursuit this time around, at least compared to when they wanted him from AS Roma in 2018, but they continued to be named as a suitor for the forward.
Corriere dello Sport are the ones pushing it on Tuesday, as they claim that Watford are among those in England who want the veteran striker.
However, there are also a number of teams in Italy, with Udinese, Empoli and Cagliari all named, who have ‘tested the waters several times’ in the past few days.
Therefore, Watford, if they are indeed keen on gifting the 32-year-old to Valérien Ismaël this month, will need to act quickly, as the queue is growing longer, and the prospect of staying in Serie A could be enticing for a player who has made a name for himself in Italy over the years.
The Vicarage Road side, meanwhile, will only be able to offer Championship football, with no guarantees as of yet that a move back to the Premier League is on the table, as they sit eighth in the table after 27 games, admittedly just one point behind the first playoff spot currently owned by Coventry City.
