Cowleys tried to sign Jayden Richardson for Portsmouth

DANNY Cowley was pleased with Jayden Richardson’s ‘solid debut’ for Colchester United against Bradford City.

And the U’s boss believes the on-loan Aberdeen right-back can be a force in League Two this season, with his pace and athleticism.

Richardson officially signed for Colchester on Friday afternoon and started for them for the first time 24 hours later, helping them secure a point against the Bantams.

The former Nottingham Forest youngster made a competent debut for the U’s and head coach Cowley was pleased with the full-back’s contribution.

Cowley said: “I thought considering the circumstances, he made a real solid debut.

“It wasn’t easy for Jayden.

“It wasn’t our plan to throw him straight in.

Colchester United defender Tom Dallison in League Two team

Dallison filled in at left-back for the U’s in their 1-1 draw with Bradford City, following Ellis Iandolo’s absence due to injury.

The former Crawley Town defender, who has made 20 appearances for the U’s so far this season, provided the assist for Tom Hopper’s second-half equaliser, after Andy Cook’s opener before half-time.

Colchester boss Danny Cowley said: “It wasn’t ideal preparation because we lost Ellis towards the end of the week.

“We had to tilt the team the other way and this means that because Tom Dallison is really a centre-half, as a left-back he has to invert.
