Orioles Given Price by White Sox to Acquire Dylan Cease

The Baltimore Orioles have reportedly been told what it will take to acquire Dylan Cease from the Chicago White Sox this offseason.

As the offseason continues to roll on for the Baltimore Orioles, all eyes are on if they will actually be able to land the ace they’ve been looking for this winter.

Without the ability to spend major money on some of the top free agent options, the trade market is where they would likely be able to find this player.

For a while now, the Orioles have repeatedly been linked to Chicago White Sox ace, Dylan Cease, but nothing of substance has developed after what type of trade package they were reportedly looking for in return.

The asking price has been classified as “unreasonable” by a former executive and Baltimore has not been willing to meet those demands.

More information has been reported about what the White Sox have asked from the Orioles if they want to land the ace.

“… while asking the Baltimore Orioles for outfielder Colton Cowser or Heston Kjerstad among their prospects,” Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY writes.

This doesn’t come as a huge shock.

Both Colton Cowser and Heston Kjerstad were names that were thought would be included in a potential deal.

One thing of note though is that Nightengale said “or” when discussing these prospects and not “both.”

Shipping out both in a trade package would be crazy, but with Chicago only looking for one of these players, depending on what other prospects are being asked for, a potential deal could become much more palatable.

Baltimore also now knows the reasonable contract Cease will be paid in 2024, which could make them more interested from a financial aspect.

Ultimately, if this deal is going to get done, it will come down to what the Orioles are comfortable giving up in return for two years of a pitcher who was Cy Young runner-up in 2022.
