Leeds United produced one of their most dominant performances of the season against Cardiff City this afternoon.
The Whites ran out comfortable 3-0 winners in South Wales to put an end to a three-match Championship losing run away from home.
Patrick Bamford, Dan James and Georginio Rutter were all on the scoresheet for Leeds, with the former drawing particular praise for how he has impacted the side since returning to the starting XI.
But speaking on BBC Radio Leeds, former Leeds man Jon Newsome wanted to single out the work ethic of James at both ends of the pitch, on top of the crucial second goal in which he scored.
Newsome believes James provides Archie Gray with a ‘fabulous’ amount of support down that right-hand-side, always sprinting across to ensure he can double up on the winger.
Newsome hails James work rate vs Cardiff
“Leeds Sensational World Class Forward Breaks Greatest Record In Football History As He…..
“He doubles up in front of Archie Gray and helps him with the defensive side of it. That’s what you are looking for. He does that willingly and it’s fabulous.
”
James has been getting a lot of plaudits this season for what he has been doing in the final third, and rightly so, as he is now up to nine goals and five assists already this season. The best of his career.
He forms key part of an ‘unplayable’ Leeds attack at this level, but what goes unnoticed, is just how much work he always puts in to help Gray – who it has to be said, is still a 17-year-old playing out of position.
Gray is also able to go and do what he does best, which is in possession, with the comfort of knowing that James will be there to cover him. It is a partnership that continues to get better.
