Cardiff City Midfielder Set For Scottish Premiership Move

Cardiff City youngster Eli King is set to go on loan to Scottish Premiership side Ross County, currently managed by his former Morecambe manager Derek Adams.

The 21-year old midfielder returned to the Bluebirds after an impressive start to the season on loan at League Two side Morecambe, with his parent club now looking to loan him out to higher level competition. If he is to join the Staggies, his first game is likely to be against Scottish champions Celtic

Ross County currently find themselves 11th in the table and after a difficult start to the season, have picked up only 18 points from their opening 19 matches. Adams joined the club at the end of November, after the departure of former manager Malky Mackay, who himself has famous history with the Bluebirds having guided them to the Premier League for the first time in 2013.

Adams had a positive start to life at Victoria Park, with a 0-0 draw against Kilmarnock, followed by back to back victories against St Mirren and Motherwell. But since the 3-0 win against Motherwell, they have failed to win their last four fixtures, picking up only one point in the process.

Welsh youth international King would make 24 appearances for the Shrimpers in all competitions, scoring twice and assisting a further three during his time at The Mazuma Stadium. Adams, who left Morecambe in November was the manager to bring King to the club, and it now appears that they will link up again in Scotland.

When questioned by Wales Online on the plans for the academy graduate’s future, Cardiff manager Erol Bulut replied: “He has already a new club where he goes on loan to play. It’s not done yet, but his ex-coach is there and he wants him to continue to play many games.

“It’s important he has many games. It’s important he plays more games there and for the new season.”

King is not the only Cardiff youngster who is linking up with a former manager, with under-21 player Malachi Fagan-Walcott joining Dunfermline on loan for the remainder of the season. The Scottish Championship side are managed by James McPake, who had the former Tottenham Hotspur defender on loan at Dundee in 2021.
