Luton striker Joe Taylor has signed for Lincoln City after his previous loan with Colchester United was cut short.

Taylor, 21, had been on a season-long loan with Colchester, but it was confirmed late last week that his loan move with the League Two club had been cut short after Luton exercised a recall option.

They have now loaned Taylor will make a loan move to League One, with Taylor signing for the Imps on a loan deal for the remainder of the current season.

Taylor’s spell at Colchester had seen him hit form, with the striker scoring 12 goals in 27 appearances for the Essex-based club.

Lincoln City Head Coach Michael Skubala told the club’s website that he saw Taylor as an asset as part of a remodelling of their attack following recent injury issues.

He said, “Joe has all the attributes that we need: he will add pace, power and threat to our front line, which will help to make us a better team. We are also committed to make sure he returns to Luton as a better player.

“Losing Ben House and Tyler Walker through injury has been a massive blow. With Joe and Freddie Draper, we now have two completely different centre-forwards, with a total of 22 goals between them in League Two this season, to come into our squad.”

Colchester’s Sporting Director Dmitri Halajko told the U’s official website that they will miss Taylor.

He said, “Obviously, we would have loved to have kept him longer at the club, however with most loans the parent club has a call back option in January which Luton have exercised.”

“It’s never easy to find a twenty goal a season striker and Joe will be a big miss for us, his goals and pace have made him one of the outstanding forwards in League Two this season.
