Giants add former Cy Young winner

LHP Robbie Ray acquired from the Mariners for OF Mitch Haniger, RHP Anthony DeSclafani and cash considerations
Ray, who won the American League Cy Young Award in 2021 with the Blue Jays, is expected to be out until the second half after undergoing Tommy John surgery on his left elbow last May. He made only one start last year, but he had a 3.71 ERA over 189 innings for the Mariners in 2022. The 32-year-old veteran is owed $73 million over the final three years of his contract, though he’ll have the ability to opt out following the 2024 season

Tom Murphy agrees to two-year deal with 2026 club option
Murphy will earn $8 million over the two years, but the deal also includes a $4 million club option for 2026 ($250,000 buyout), guaranteeing him at least $8.25 million total. The 32-year-old veteran is expected to serve as a backup to starting catcher Patrick Bailey

TJ Hopkins acquired from the Reds in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations
Hopkins, 26, hit .171 without a home run in 25 games during his rookie season with Cincinnati in 2023. He spent most of the season at Triple-A Louisville, where he batted .308 with a .925 OPS and 16 home runs over 93 games while primarily playing the corner outfield. A right-handed hitter, Hopkins was designated for assignment by the Reds on Dec. 14.

Devin Sweet claimed off waivers from Oakland
Sweet, 27, made his Major League debut with the Mariners in July and allowed 10 earned runs over 8 2/3 innings (10.38 ERA) over seven relief appearances between Seattle and Oakland in 2023. Signed as a non-drafted free agent out of North Carolina Central in 2018, Sweet recorded a 2.25 ERA with 57 strikeouts over 44 innings in 36 relief appearances between Double-A and Triple-A this past season.

 CF Jung Hoo Lee agrees to six-year, $113 million contract
The Giants made their first big splash of the offseason by landing Lee, who will make the jump to the Majors after starring in the Korea Baseball Organization for seven seasons.

Lee, whose contract includes an opt-out after the 2027 season, will earn $7 million in 2024, $16 million in 2025, $22 million in 2026, $22 million in 2027, $20.5 million in 2028 and $20.5 million in 2029. He’ll also receive a signing bonus of $5 million. Lee will make a charitable contribution to the Giants Community Fund, donating $60,000 in 2024, $80,000 in 2025, $110,000 in 2026 and 2027, and $102,500 in 2028 and 2029.

If Lee stays in San Francisco for the entire contract, the Giants will also owe the Kiwoom Heroes, his former club, an $18.825 million posting fee, bringing their total outlay to nearly $132 million
