Per MLBTradeRumors:
The Astros are claiming right-hander Declan Cronin off waivers from the White Sox, per MLB Transactions Daily. The righty was designated for assignment by the Sox a week ago. Houston has a full 40-man roster and will need to make a corresponding move.
Cronin is a 26-year-old who was drafted in 2019 by the White Sox out of Holy Cross. He made his major league debut in 2023 for the White Sox, pitching in nine games. He went 0-1 for Chicago with a 9.00 ERA as the team finished in fourth in the American League Central.
Evidently, Houston sees something they like and may be looking to add him to the bullpen mix in 2024. The Astros could be looking at some opportunity out there, as Hector Neris is a free agent this offseason.
