Leeds United want £5m to sell their 21-year-old player this month, Ipswich Town are keen
Daniel Farke is reluctant to lose anyone from his Leeds United squad this month.
There has not been a shortage of interest in some of Leeds’ just over a week into the window, with Crysencio Summerville perhaps unsurprisingly winning plenty of Premier League admirers, including from Newcastle United.
At the same time, some of Leeds’ fringe players are also either wanted on loan or permanently. Plymouth Argyle have today become the latest team to join the race for Joe Gelhardt.
Gelhardt’s former U21s teammate Charlie Cresswell is in a similar position having played just a single minute of football since the Carabao Cup defeat at Salford City in August. Several Championship clubs are keen.
But according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds will command a fee of £5 million in order to sell the 21-year-old this month, which price out some of his potential suitors – including Ipswich Town.
Cresswell unhappy at Leeds
Cresswell’s lack of minutes has made him unhappy at Leeds this season, with Phil Hay suggesting last week that an interesting situation could develop.
This was only heightened by his Dad Richard’s Instagram story prior to Cresswell being left out of the squad to face Peterborough United on Sunday, where he said it would be nice to see him play again.
However, last month it was claimed that Farke has told the likes of Cresswell and Gelhardt they will have to stay for the rest of the season. He did, though, seem to ease that stance after the win over Birmingham City on New Year’s Day.
Leeds will not let him go cheaply with Cresswell having only signed a new deal in the summer. Given that he came through the academy, he would also represent pure profit towards Leeds’ profit and sustainability.
As such, an asking price of between £4 million and £5 million has been set, but that could mean interested trio Ipswich, Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers are price out of a move
