Very good addition’… Leeds told to sign Premier League man as ideal Djed Spence replacement
Djed Spence’s return to Tottenham from Leeds United came as a bit of a surprise, not least because it is apparent that we did not have a replacement lined-up – but Connor Roberts could be that man.
The 28-year-old is one of a number of Wales stars to be linked with a move to Elland Road this month. Daniel Farke already boasts Ethan Ampadu, Dan James and Joe Rodon in his promotion-cashing squad.
Bournemouth stars Chris Mepham, David Brooks and Kieffer Moore have all been linked with Leeds. The right-sided flyer in the form of Neco Williams is another one, but Nottingham Forest will not want to sell.
Burnley’s Roberts is another. He’s entered the final 18 months of his Burnley deal, two and a half years after penning a four-year deal at Burnley – joining from Swansea for £2.5m. Not started since October.
Leeds need a right-back after losing Spence, one that can operate on both flanks. Burnley may be open to the loan or sale of Roberts, and Roberts himself is said to be very interested in a move to Elland Road.
Carlton Palmer urges Leeds United to sign Connor Roberts
Now, former Leeds man Carlton Palmer has commented on the reports. He told Football League World that it would be a great signing for his old side if they could get Roberts in, to replace Spurs’ Spence.
“Connor would be a shrewd signing for Leeds, and his pals Ampadu and Rodon from the Welsh squad should help him hit the ground running. This would be a very, very good addition for Leeds United.”
Palmer is right. A player with 54 Wales caps, a player with huge experience in the Championship and of course the know how to gain promotion from it – and a player that can play in the Premier League.
Given he was only bought by Burnley for £2.5m, you would imagine their asking price for the defender is not going to be a particularly large one. We can get ourselves a very good defender on the cheap, here.
