Southampton closing in on Leeds United target from PL club this week
Leeds United have been linked with a move to sign Bournemouth attacking midfielder David Brooks this month, but Southampton appear to be closing in on the signing.
Leeds and their promotion rival counterparts are where they are mainly because of their quality in attack, but that isn’t stopping them from looking at attacking signings to strengthen this month.
For Leeds, an attacking midfielder or right-sided winger would be the best way to go about strengthening, which is the same for Southampton.
TalkSPORT journalist Alex Crook reported this month that both Leeds and the side above them, Southampton, are interested in signing Bournemouth winger David Brooks.
The right-sided attacker is not getting frequent game time at Andoni Iraola’s resurgent Cherries side, with just two starts to his name in the Premier League this term.
In his 12 Premier League outings, he has notched one goal and one assist, while he started against QPR in the FA Cup donning the captain’s armband.
Southampton close in on Brooks deal
Now, journalist Nick Mashiter has reported that the Saints are closing in on agreeing to sign the Welsh international on loan:
Southampton’s proximity to Bournemouth might make this a much easier deal for them to pursue than us, given the player won’t have to relocate any time soon.
However, this is certainly a missed opportunity for Leeds to not have a creative player like Brooks in the squad.
His quality on the right wing is something that we need to pair with Crysencio Summerville much better, as our approach is disjointed at times.
I still have confidence in the club making the right moves when they become known, though.
