League One club reportedly agree deal for Luton Town striker

Luton Town yesterday confirmed that young striker Joe Taylor had been recalled from his loan spell at League Two Colchester United.

In what proved to be a productive temporary stint with the Essex-based club, the 21-year-old departed having scored 12 times in 27 league appearances.

Taylor arrived at Kenilworth Road from Peterborough United last January and if it wasn’t for a VAR check, he would have scored the goal that sent the Hatters to the Premier League, with the attacker netting in the second half of extra-time during the Championship play-off final at Wembley

He later stepped up to convert from the spot as Luton rather dramatically secured promotion to the top-flight.

According to Football Insider, it is League One outfit Lincoln City who have won the race to sign the promising Luton striker and he is set to join the Imps for the remainder of this campaign.

A previous report from Football Insider claimed that around half of the clubs in England’s third tier held an interest in the electric forward, naming promotion-hopefuls Bolton Wanderers and Oxford United in the chase.

Taylor succeeded in an under-performing Colchester United team and has certainly earned the opportunity to ply his trade at the higher level.

A player with an incredibly high ceiling, high levels of confidence and bravery, and an early reputation for scoring goals, Lincoln are welcoming in a gem who has the potential to lift the club from a recent slump that has seen them drop away from the League One play-off positions.

You would think a successful loan spell at the LNER Stadium will firmly put Taylor in Rob Edwards’ plans with next season in mind, regardless of what division the Hatters find themselves in.
