Titans Quarterback Will Levis Wants the Team To Retain Mike Vrabel As Coach
Will Levis, the Titans’ starting quarterback for the foreseeable future, on Monday said he hopes that future includes Mike Vrabel as the coach. “I love everyone in this building and I hope it stays the same,” Levis said while cleaning out his locker Monday less than 24 hours after the Titans finished his rookie season at 6-11. “I hope that we’re all able to grow and we’re all able to stick together. I don’t have any say in those things but, hopefully, it stays together.” In nine starts, Levis threw for 1,808 yards, with eight touchdowns and four interceptions. Levis expressed confidence that he has learned
valuable lessons by getting an opportunity to play when veteran Ryan Tannehill missed time because of injuries. “The way it all worked out was pretty serendipitous in terms of when I was even healthy enough to start playing and when Ryan got hurt,” Levis said. “At that point, I feel like I took my preparation up to the next level and got myself ready and kind of had that approach even before I got the opportunity to get the job.” The rookie quarterback said he believes Vrabel wants to stay despite ongoing rumors inside and outside the Titans organization. “I’ve heard rumblings, but it’s best to just ask the man himself, so that’s what I did,” Levis told reporters. “He’s going to communicate with us as soon as he knows. But I know he wants to be here, and I don’t really pay attention to what I see other
than the information that I feel like is concrete and what we get from the people in this building.” Vrabel was one of seven coaches hired during the 2018 cycle. He’s the only one still employed with that team. Jon Gruden (Las Vegas Raiders), Frank Reich (Indianapolis Colts), Matt Patricia (Detroit Lions), Steve Wilks (Arizona Cardinals), Matt Nagy (Chicago Bears), and Pat Shurmur (New York Giants) all lost their jobs. Linebacker Harold Landry, who joined the Titans during Vrabel’s first
season, echoed Levis’ sentiments. and pointed to how the Titans performed in the season finale — despite being eliminated from playoff contention — as a sign that Vrabel’s influence on the team is significantly positive. “I’ve been with him my whole career,” Landry said. “I feel like my time I’ve spent with him and this defensive staff, I feel like I can kind of speak on them, and with Vrabes, I feel like my entire career here, situationally, I’ve been as prepared as I can possibly be for every game.”
