Wolves face major ‘obstacle’ in pursuit of PSG transfer

Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly interested in signing Paris Saint-Germain forward Hugo Ekitike on loan.

Wolves are keen to land a replacement for Sasa Kalajdzic, who joined Eintracht Frankfurt on loan. According to French newspaper L’Equipe, Wolves have set their eyes on Ekitike who has fallen down the pecking order at Parc des Princes.

However they will face competition from Wolfsburg who are also in the race for his signature. Le 10 Sport claim that PSG are open to letting the Frenchman either depart on loan or permanently.

He has played just eight minutes this season after featuring in the opening game of the season. Ekitike has since been left out of Luis Enrique’s match day squads and the club are looking to resolve the situation this month

The report adds that Wolves have “contacted the player’s entourage with a view to start discussions”. A loan would reportedly be preferable for Wolves but could include a purchase option.

However, the French media state that a “main obstacle” for Wolves is Ekitike’s high salary.

Wolves midfielder Luke Cundle is undergoing a medical on Tuesday morning (9 January) after agreeing to the terms of a move to Stoke City, sources have told Football Insider.
