Steven Schumacher eyes attacking players for Stoke City in transfer window
Steven Schumacher has got his eye on trying to add one or two more forwards to help give Stoke City a goal boost in the second half of the season.
Schumacher made his first signing as Stoke head coach on Friday when he brought in keeper Daniel Iversen on loan from Leicester until the end of the season, handing him a debut in a 4-2 FA Cup defeat to Brighton on Saturday.
A left-back and striker are also on Stoke’s agenda over the next three-and-a-half weeks and Schumacher will work with head of recruitment Jared Dublin and technical director Ricky Martin to try to get the right fit for the way he wants his side to play.
“You’ve got to assess what your squad looks like and what areas need strengthening,” said Schumacher. “It’s no secret that we probably need another couple of attacking players. I think defensively as a squad throughout the first half of the season we’ve been pretty solid. In the first four games that we’ve been here we’ve sensed that the defenders have done really well, we’ve looked organised but we’ve missed that cutting edge at the top end of the pitch.
“It’s no secret that we have areas we want to try to strengthen. Our recruitment team present players they have already highlighted and I will throw my opinion in on players that we’ve been watching as well. If we can get it right and bring in players to the squad who are going to make us a better team, then everyone’s a winner.
”
He added: “It’s not easy (to find a forward) and (forwards) cost a lot of money as well, especially at this level. We have to make sure we do our due diligence and get the right people in, not just bring people in for the sake of it.
