Ipswich Town named as potential destination for Liverpool player

Kieran McKenna’s men may be interested in luring the attacking midfielder away from Anfield

Ipswich Town have emerged as a potentially interested side in Liverpool midfielder Fabio Carvalho, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth who spoke to Give Me Sport.

The Portugal youth international is currently in limbo, having been recalled from Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig after failing to secure much game time out in Germany.

He may have registered 15 competitive appearances for his former loan team, but many of these displays came from the bench and he didn’t have a major opportunity to make an impact.

This loan move came after he was temporarily deemed surplus to requirements at Anfield, having spent his first season with the Reds in Merseyside.

Jurgen Klopp’s side decided to move for Carvalho after seeing him impress for Fulham in the Championship during the 2021/22 campaign.

Unfortunately for him, regular starts have been hard to come by since his departure from Craven Cottage – but a temporary move back to England’s second tier could allow him to be one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Ipswich Town take potential interest in Fabio Carvalho

A couple of teams have already been linked with a move for the 21-year-old, with Sky Sports believing Championship league leaders Leicester City are keen on him.

Southampton have also been linked – and Sheth believes another automatic promotion contender could now be in the mix for the 21-year-old.

He told Give Me Sport: “Although he has gone back to Liverpool, they still want him to get first-team football, so I would expect Carvalho to go out on loan once again in this transfer window.

“We’ve been told that there are a couple of clubs in the Championship, in particular, who are interested in Carvalho.

“We think that Southampton might have been taking a look at him. Leicester City have as well, along with Ipswich, potentially.

Ipswich Town could benefit from having Fabio Carvalho

By signing Carvalho on loan, they would be preventing some of their promotion rivals from snapping him up.

That could be massive for the Tractor Boys who have had a wobble recently, but could richly benefit from having the 21-year-old at their disposal.

However, it could be argued that this is an area they don’t need to address as a matter of urgency, with Jeremy Sarmiento able to operate in a central advanced midfield position.

With George Hirst out of action, bringing in a striker is probably a must now, so Carvalho may not be the highest priority if he is on their target list.

However, it would be good if they could secure his signature, because he could provide them with extra firepower.
