Dallas Cowboys break out a helmet look they've never used before for game vs. Titans - rta.com.co

Major shakeup could come to Dallas Cowboys, depending on one important factor

Even though they haven’t won a Super Bowl since 1995, the pressure to win another NFL championship is at an all-time high with the Dallas Cowboys. Then again, perhaps their decades-long drought is why Jerry Jones is so hungry to taste victory at the highest level once again.

Jones has gone through several coaches and quarterbacks since Barry Switzer and Troy Aikman hoisted the Super Bowl trophy in January of 1996, but he’s never even been able to get the Cowboys back to the NFC Championship.

Yet, what happened in the past does not matter because the Cowboys are back on top in a sense, competing for one of the top seeds in the NFC with Mike McCarthy leading the way. So far, McCarthy has performed admirably in his four seasons leading the team, with a win-loss record of 41-25. Yet, he has just a 1-2 record in the playoffs.

McCarthy ranks eighth in NFL history among active head coaches, with a win percentage of .619. While the regular season wins are great, they’ll keep getting him head coaching opportunities, but what everyone really wants is another Super Bowl ring, including McCarthy.

McCarthy has helped the Cowboys win 12 games each of the past two years prior to 2023. On Sunday, he’ll look to extend that streak to three seasons when the Cowboys take on the Commanders. After that? McCarthy could be coaching for his job

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, members of the Cowboys organization are getting the sense that McCarthy will be judged on how Dallas performs in the playoffs, no matter who they’re matched up against.

This isn’t a new concept, especially for the Cowboys, who moved on from Jason Garrett after he failed to get past the Divisional Round in nine seasons as head coach.

Another factor that could come into play is defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. He’s helped the Cowboys have a top-10 defense each of the past three seasons, and he could very well be a popular head coaching candidate in the upcoming hiring cycle.
