Jeremy Sarmiento moves to Ipswich Town on loan from Brighton

Ipswich Town has secured the services of Jeremy Sarmiento on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion for the remainder of the season.

The 21-year-old versatile attacker is the first signing of the January transfer window for the Blues and will spend his time at Portman Road wearing the number 21 shirt.

Sarmiento comes to Ipswich following a stint with West Bromwich Albion, where he scored two goals in 20 Championship appearances, including a match against Ipswich at The Hawthorns in November.

The player, who represented Ecuador in the 2022 World Cup, will join the Town team later this week.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the new challenge, Jeremy said, “I’m very excited to be joining Ipswich at a time when they have been on a great run since winning promotion to the Championship. Ipswich were always there, after interest in the summer which didn’t quite work out, but I’m here now and I’m ready to do my best.”

“It’s happened quickly and smoothly and I’ve enjoyed my conversations with the manager, which made it clear this is where I should play, so I’m excited to try and show him what I can do and earn minutes in a team which plays a style I think will suit me. I am a direct player and like to get the fans on their feet with a bit of flair, which is a big side to my game, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Born in Madrid, Sarmiento moved to England at age seven and developed his skills through Charlton Athletic’s youth system.

He later joined Benfica in 2018 before returning to England to sign with Brighton in 2021. During his time with the Seagulls, he made 19 appearances, 14 of which were in the Premier League.

At the international level, Sarmiento initially played for England up to the U18s before switching to represent Ecuador, his parents’ birth country, in 2021.

He has earned 13 senior caps and played in all three of Ecuador’s matches at the 2022 World
