Inter Miami have now step up transfer search to replace ‘brilliant’ 31-year-old player with deal worth $100 million
Inter Miami will reportedly expand their search to replace Kamal Miller to Europe and South America, with the defender set to leave for the Portland Timbers.
The Canadian international, as reported by the Athletic, is due to move to the MLS Western Conference side, with Portland acquiring Miller in a trade worth $625,000 in GAM for Inter Miami.
With Tata Martino and Lionel Messi failing in an attempt to bring Marcos Rojo to Florida, Inter Miami’s search for a new defender isn’t going too well.
Yet according to Mundo Deportivo, the Herons will now widen their search massively for a new centre-back signing, with Europe and South America being looked at by Inter Miami’s scouting team.
Lauded by John Herdman as ‘brilliant’, replacing Miller will be a big task for Inter Miami this January, with the defender one of Martino’s regulars in the second half of last season.
Indeed, replacing Miller will be a hard task for Inter Miami, yet expanding the search to two of soccer’s most fruitful continents is a step in the right direction.
Inter Miami can find an upgrade on Kamal Miller this January
Miller has shown for club and country in recent years that he is a top defender for MLS clubs, with Inter Miami’s decision to trade the centre-back was an unusual one.
However, given the reach Inter Miami now have and the appeal the Herons now have with Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez on their books, there’s every chance that a better defender can be signed.
Whilst some attempts have already failed this month, Inter Miami still have time to get something done in the market, with one or two new central defenders a key priority for the MLS franchise.
