Yankees Was The Right Choice As Landing Spot For Cy Young Award In Trade After Impressive Season
There is plenty of speculation swirling around about the New York Yankees right now.
New York is in win-now mode. The Yankees completed arguably the biggest trade of the offseason so far as they acquired superstar slugger Juan Soto and two-time Gold Glove Award winner Trent Grisham in a trade with the San Diego Padres.
Soto is set to hit free agency at the end of the 2024 season and realistically could leave New York after just one season in town. The Yankees have a chance to make a run at a World Series title in 2024 but need to add to the starting rotation.
New York has been linked to multiple star hurlers at this point and one player who has consistently been brought up is Milwaukee Brewers star Corbin Burnes. The 2021 National League Cy Young Award winner may end up being traded this offseason and the Yankees could line up as a trade partner.
The Yankees have work to do and Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer attempted to find a solution to the club’s rotation issues. He suggested the Yankees should swing a deal for Burnes rather than considering signing free-agent stars Blake Snell or Jordan Montgomery.
“Maybe this is a hot take, but the Yankees should sign neither Snell nor Montgomery nor anyone else to fill the space between (Gerrit Cole) and Carlos Rodón,” Rymer said. “What they should do instead is call up the Milwaukee Brewers and make them an offer they can’t refuse for Corbin Burnes.
“As good as Snell and Montgomery are, the last thing the Yankees need on their books is another 30-something player on a nine-figure deal. And while the catch with Burnes is that he’s only under club control through 2024, that’s fine because A) he’s one of MLB’s elite hurlers and B) what’s two trades for rental superstars after you’ve already made one?”
Burnes has been mentioned as a possible trade option for the Yankees on multiple occasions at this point in the offseason and it looks like the speculation isn’t going to be slowing down any time soon.
