Ohio State has a talent advantage over every team it plays; it's time Ryan Day coaches like it - Land-Grant Holy Land

Ohio State Buckeyes Lose Their Top Wide Receiver in the Team After what Transpired Within.

The Ohio State Buckeyes saw a wave of players leave once the transfer portal opened. After their bowl game loss to Missouri, they are seeing another one. Former top 60 recruit Noah Rogers announced he is entering the transfer portal.

Rogers was a five-star recruit in the 2023 cycle and according to On3, was the 52nd ranked player in the country. Because of the log jam at the wide receiver position, he didn’t see the field in 2023. This caused him to look elsewhere especially considering that the competition will likely continue with more top-tier wide receiver recruits coming in. Roger likely saw the writing on the wall and decided to transfer. He is from North Carolina and will likely have a lot of competition for his services.

Concern For Ryan Day And The Buckeyes?

There is one thing that I think is curious about this situation. Rogers is the second top wide receiver recruit in the 2023 cycle to transfer out of Ohio State because of a lack of playing time. While getting the receivers is great, there seems to be an increased pressure to play them immediately. I don’t fault the Buckeyes for playing Marvin Harrison Jr. over Rogers but it seems like the Buckeyes could slow down on their recruiting of wide receivers. If they cannot give them playing time right away, they will likely transfer for playing time and the program could suffer later when they don’t have the talent to replenish the roster.

Is this mass exodus of players something to be concerned about? It definitely isn’t good and Ryan Day will have his hands full in 2024.

Rogers didn’t see the field for the Buckeyes this year, but with the potential departures of fellow wide receivers Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka to the NFL, it seemed likely that he would factor in next season.

Rogers originally committed to Ohio State in 2022 and was the 57th-ranked player in the class. The North Carolina native picked the Buckeyes over Alabama, Clemson, North Carolina, and North Carolina State.

The belief is that North Carolina and NC State will both be interested in trying to bring Rogers back home.

Earlier in the offseason, Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord also entered the transfer portal after Day wouldn’t guarantee his spot as starting quarterback next season. McCord transferred to Syracuse.

While Rogers seemingly would have factored in to next year’s plans, the Buckeyes, as usual, will have plenty of other options at receiver. Wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, 2024’s top overall recruit, committed to the Buckeyes and signed his letter of intent last week.
