Erol Bulut reveals reason behind star’s emotional celebration as Cardiff City set for quick transfer movements

Erol Bulut said the 2-1 win over QPR was the “perfect start” for Cardiff City’s 2024 and praised the team’s fighting spirit.

The Bluebirds battled to victory in west London thanks to set-piece headers from Dimitrios Goutas and Perry Ng, although Paul Smyth’s leveller did have City fans on tenterhooks for much of the second half.

With a number of absentees, Bulut was delighted to see his team kick off the new year with three points, which sees his side move up to ninth in the table and four points away from those play-off places.

REPORT: QPR 1-2 Cardiff City: Goutas and Ng score to start Bluebirds’ year off with a win

“It was perfect to have a win for the new year,” the Bluebirds boss said. “The way we won, it was great. It was not the greatest game playing with the ball, the opponent had more from the ball, but we’ve been good behind the ball.

“When I see how many injuries I have now. How many players have a sickness so they are not with us, in the offensive part I have limited possibilities. The team showed fighting spirit, winning spirit, some games are like that.

“We train a lot for (set pieces), we make enough goals and I hope we continue like that. Sometimes, the offensive part of the game don’t score, so then we have to count on our defenders and they are doing it well. We want our offensive part to create and finalise more, but we have limited possibilities for that.”
