San Diego Padres Pitching Role Predicted to Win Major Awards in 2024

One MLB insider believes San Diego’s number three prospect will win a major MiLB pitching award in 2024

The San Diego Padres will look to turn a new leaf in 2024. The Padres had a disappointing 2023 season, and they’ll be looking for improvements this coming year.

They failed to make the postseason with a stacked roster, so everything should spring eternal for the Friars. San Diego has a ton of veteran talent on their roster, so it’ll be hard to imagine many of their young players getting some run in the major leagues.

Still, the veterans should be able to take care of business at the major league level, and the youngsters should do the same at the minor league level. The Padres have some great young talent at their disposal, including their number-three prospect and number-one pitching prospect, Robby Snelling.

MLB.com baseball insider Jim Callis believes a great year is ahead for Snelling, saying he will win the 2024 Pipeline Pitcher of the Year.

“I’m going to go with Robby Snelling … Last year [he] had a 1.82 ERA and got to Double-A by the end of the year. What’s not to like about this guy?… It’s a quality fastball that nobody hits. It’s a quality curveball. It’s one of the better breaking balls in the Minor Leagues. The changeup is coming along fine. He throws a ton of strikes. He’s left-handed. [He has] tremendous mound presence.”

If Snelling has a similar season in 2024 as in 2023, he will have no problem winning that award. In 2023, Robby recorded an 11-3 record with a 1.82 ERa, 118 strikeouts, and a 1.12 WHIP in 103.2 innings pitched.

The 20-year-old has been fantastic since getting drafted in 2022. The southpaw has all the tools to have this type of success in the big leagues, which he is estimated to be in come the 2026 season. The future is bright for the Friars, and if all goes well, Snelling could play a significant role for the team.
