Yankees Linked To Two-Time All-Star Starting Pitcher In Free Agency with intentions of harnessing

The New York Yankees are in an interesting spot. New York won 82 games last season and is in a better spot on paper after landing outfielders Juan Soto, Alex Verdugo, and Trent Grisham this offseason in two trades. The Yankees still have work to do, though, and are looking to improve the starting rotation. The Yankees have been linked to numerous hurlers and could even complete another blockbuster trade this offseason. New York isn’t just planning for next season, though. The Yankees have a solid window right now to win multiple World Series titles over the next few years if they play their cards right.

New York’s starting rotation is its biggest question mark right now. The Yankees likely will land at least one or two hurlers this offseason but also need to plan beyond the 2024 campaign. One player who could help New York with this is Milwaukee Brewers All-Star Brandon Woodruff, according to ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel. “The package needed to land Cease would be steep, probably something like this: Chase Hampton (the Yankees’ top pitching prospect after the Juan Soto trade), another top 100-caliber prospect in outfielder Everson Pereira along with bat-first catcher Agustin Ramirez,” McDaniel said. “That would leave New York with Will Warren and Clayton Beeter as two younger options behind the five projected MLB starters, with maybe a need for a veteran starter on a non-roster invite or an injury gamble type such as Brandon Woodruff on a two-year deal to round out the group.”

Woodruff likely will miss the entire 2024 season, but could be a very solid option for the 2025 campaign. He is a two-time All-Star and logged a 2.28 ERA last season in 11 starts. In seven seasons he has a career 3.10 ERA in 130 games and won’t cost as much as other top starters because he will miss the 2024 season.

New York is in a good spot and has some impressive talent on the roster. It can win multiple World Series titles over the next few years if it can add to the rotation and landing someone like Woodruff could only help in the long run.
