Jacksonville Jaguars Quarterback Has Caused Unexpected Setback To The Team
Trevor Lawrence’s chances of playing against the Carolina Panthers in Week 17 took a major hit Thursday after the star quarterback reportedly had an unexpected injury setback. Lawrence has been able to play through multiple injuries during this season, but this new injury could be different.
Lawrence suffered a sprained AC joint during the Jaguars loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 16. Lawrence missed Wednesday’s practice, and the Jaguars appeared to hedge their bets against their star quarterback playing this weekend when they signed Matt Barkley to the active roster.
The Jacksonville Jaguars suffer a setback Thursday
According to Josh Alper with NBC Sports, Lawrence suffered a setback on Thursday when he appeared on the injury report as a non-participant after head coach Doug Pederson said earlier in the day the Jaguars expected Lawrence to practice: “Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said at a Thursday press conference that quarterback Trevor Lawrence was expected to be back at practice as a limited participant on Thursday, but something did not go as planned.
Lawrence is listed as a non-participant on the Jaguars injury report for the second straight day. He is dealing with an AC joint sprain in his right shoulder and Pederson said he would be limited to individual drills as the team continued to prepare for Sunday’s game against the Panthers.
Friday will bring another practice session, but the lack of progress since Lawrence left the Jaguars’ Week 16 loss to the Buccaneers would seem to increase the chances that he misses a game for the first time in his NFL career. C.J. Beathard will start if Lawrence does not get the green light.”
If the Jaguars could choose for Lawrence to miss one game and get healthy before the playoffs, their contest against a 2-12 Panthers team would be it. Backup quarterback C.J. Beathard should be able to lead the Jaguars against the NFL’s worst team and offense.
However, the Panthers are coming off one of their best performances of the season against the Green Bay Packers in Week 16. The Jaguars, who have lost four games straight, don’t have any margin for error in a tied AFC South.
