Bengals Claimed Teair Tart Following DJ Reader’s Injury, But Texans Had Priority
CINCINNATI — The Bengals were one of three teams to put a waiver claim in on former Titans defensive tackle Teair Tart according to ESPN’s Field Yates.
The Texans acquired Tart because they had the highest waiver priority. The Browns also put a claim in on the 26-year-old. If the Texans didn’t claim Tart, the Bengals would’ve had the edge over the Browns.
The fourth-year lineman was released by Tennessee last week. Tart would’ve given Cincinnati’s defensive line a much-needed boost after DJ Reader suffered a torn quad tendon in their win over Minnesota. Reader was placed on injured reserve and will miss the rest of the season.
The Bengals have two open roster spots. They could promote someone from the practice squad or potentially add a veteran in free agency.
Tart was clearly the top defensive tackle on the market.
