Braves Release Recently Acquired Veteran Player

The Atlanta Braves have been quiet for the most part this offseason.

They have made a few under-the-radar trades but have done very little in free agency

One player the Braves recently acquired was veteran Matt Carpenter.

Atlanta acquired Carpenter on Friday with the hopes of trading him.

Carpenter has a bad contract and that is something no team wants to deal with.

That meant the Braves had only one choice to make with Carpenter.

According to Mark Bowman, the Braves have released Carpenter.

Carpenter was never going to fit into the Braves’ plans.

But, they have acquired a few players this offseason with hopes of flipping them elsewhere.

Carpenter was just one player they were unable to move.

The 38-year-old had a resurgence in 2022 with the New York Yankees.

He batted .305 with 15 home runs and 37 RBI.

It will be interesting to see if Carpenter gets another shot in the big leagues.

At this point, he may be best as a designated hitter.

But, teams will have to find out if he has anything left to offer before signing him.

If Carpenter wants to keep playing he will most likely have to make the veteran minimum somewhere.

But, there could be plenty of small-market teams who could be interested in his services.

We have seen many formerly great players continue to play long past their prime.

Carpenter will certainly have some decisions to make this offseason.
