Cowboys face short week again, still alive in NFC East race - The San Diego Union-Tribune

Eagles loss on Monday night keeps Cowboys alive in NFC East title race

Hope is very much alive for the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC East.

The Dallas Cowboys lost on Sunday and that was, and remains, very frustrating.

But things change quickly in the NFL and on Monday night hope was renewed.

Philadelphia Eagles v Seattle Seahawks

We should all send Christmas gifts to the Seattle Seahawks, Drew Lock and Jaxon Smith-Njigba (Dallas native!) for taking down the bad guys and keeping things tight in the NFC East. The Seattle Seahawks did it!

Many of us (understandably) spent Monday believing that the Eagles would win in Seattle and effectively wrap up the NFC East. That will not be happening.

At present time the Dallas Cowboys still lead the division.

Dallas Cowboys…………………. 10-4

Philadelphia Eagles…………….. 10-4

New York Giants………………….. 5-9

Washington Commanders……. 4-10

Philadelphia Eagles v Seattle Seahawks

As was the case last week the Eagles still control their own destiny relative to the division. If they win out the NFC East likely belongs to them.

But if the Eagles slip up and the Cowboys win out then obviously it goes to Dallas. And what’s more is that because Dallas beat Seattle they do not lose any kind of pace with Philly after their loss to Buffalo (who the Eagles beat).

Additionally the Cowboys and Eagles are both tied now with three conference losses each. While the Eagles are still in control this was a seismic moment in the division race relative to the disruption in tiebreakers. Basically consider that this Seahawks loss by the Eagles now offsets Dallas’ lost to Arizona earlier in the season as far as tiebreakers go even if Philadelphia beats them in Week 17.

Michael Gehlken summed it up well and noted that in all likelihood Dallas will need to finish with a better record than Philadelphia.

Buckle up. Things are going to get intense over the final three weeks of the regular season.
