Robert Saleh Announces Starting QB For Commanders Game not in-form
The New York Jets have another quarterback situation on their hands.
Zach Wilson left midway through the Jets’ Week 15 shutout loss to the Miami Dolphins with a head injury a didn’t return.
Trevor Siemian played in place and completed just 14-of-26 passes for 110 yards and two interceptions.
Wilson’s injury situation appeared vague at first and his status for Week 16 was in question, but Jets head coach Robert Saleh made the team’s position very clear about who would start under center against the Washington Commanders.
Saleh said Monday that if/when Wilson clears the NFL’s concussion protocol, he would start the game.
It’s hard to say whether this is a good thing for the Jets after Wilson didn’t play well in his limited time on the field: He completed 4-of-11 passes for 26 yards with no touchdowns, a lost fumble, and four sacks.
But the alternative in Siemian is likely worse given how he played this past week.
The other option if Wilson can’t play and the Jets don’t want to start Siemian is third-stringer Brett Rypien.
He has limited starting experience but could be a different player for the Jets if Wilson isn’t healthy enough to play.
One thing’s for sure – the Jets likely won’t activate Aaron Rodgers off injured reserve after being mathematically eliminated from the playoffs after dropping to 5-9.
There is no reason to rush Rodgers back onto the field with nothing to play for the rest of the year.
A healthy Rodgers in 2024 is really all the Jets can hope for now – that and a higher draft pick in April.
