Bengals backup quarterback reveals he was called in for a drug test just hours after stunning the Vikings with comeback overtime win
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Jake Browning put up a defining performance in his young NFL career, but immediately had to face the music in the form of a drug test.
Browning led the Bengals to a wild comeback victory in front of his home fans – beating the Minnesota Vikings 27-24.
But after the game, he got a text message from the league’s drug testing coordinators telling him that he would be asked to test for steroids.
Browning shared the text in a now-deleted post to his Instagram Story that read, ‘This is Joe, DCO on behalf of the NFL. You’re on my list for a urine steroid test tomorrow.
‘I will be in the testing area from 9:30-12:30. Please confirm receiving this.
Down 17-3 going into the fourth quarter, Browning helped march the Bengals down the field three times for three touchdowns.
The first TD pass to Tee Higgins made it a seven point game before a one-yard handoff to Joe Mixon tied the contest at 17-17.
Minnesota extended took back the ball and scored a touchdown with just under four minutes left to make it 24-17.
But Browning and the Bengals answered the call – with the QB finding Higgins again for a 21-yard-strike with 39 seconds left to tie the contest at 24-24.
In overtime, neither team managed to score on their first drives. But kicker Evan McPherson knocked through a game-winning field goal that saw the Bengals move up to 8-6 on the season.
