Max Scherzer underwent surgery for a herniated disk in his back.
He will miss the first few months of next season, with a return not expected until June or July.
According to Kennedi Landry, the Rangers hoped for plenty of other treatments besides surgery.
But the pain would not subside and surgery became the only action.
The Rangers snuck up on the league last season.
They were not expected to be World Series contenders.
But everything clicked for them as they got hot at the right time.
Losing Scherzer for the first few months of next season will hurt.
But the Rangers have plenty of depth and should still be able to stay competitive.
The Rangers will have their work cut out for them if they want to return to the World Series.
Many teams around the league have gotten better and there is so much parity in the league.
If the last few seasons have shown us anything, that is the best teams do not always win.
Instead, it is the teams that are the hottest entering the playoffs who go the furthest.
Texas will have their work cut out for them as they try to repeat as champions.
But, there is no doubt they should be on the list of teams that can win it all.
