Browns defensive tackle lost for the season to a torn pec: ‘The frustration is unbearable’; he and Dawand Jones to IR; other moves
CLEVELAND, Ohio — It’s been a rough week for the Browns from an injury standpoint.
First they ruled out right tackle Dawand Jones for the season with a torn MCL, and then did the same for Jedrick Wills Jr. with his sprained and bruised knee. Both required season-ending surgeries.
Now comes the news that defensive tackle Maurice Hurst, who was off to an excellent season as part of the rotation, is also out for the season with a torn pectoral muscle suffered against the Jaguars.

And in the next couple of days, safety Grant Delpit might also go to short-term injured reserve with his groin injury, which is expected to keep him out multiple games. If he goes on IR, he’ll have to miss at least the rest of the regular season, but might make it back for the playoffs.
Not so for Hurst, who was signed to a one-year deal in the offseason worth $1.242 million.
“My 2023 season is over, and the frustration is unbearable,” Hurst, who was rejuvenated in Jim Schwartz’s defense, posted on X. “However I am grateful to my teammates, coaches, staff, and the city of Cleveland for welcoming me and making me a part of this family. … I’ll be back better than before.”
The Browns on Tuesday placed Hurst and Jones (knee) on injured reserve for the season. The club has also signed DE Sam Kamara to the active roster from the practice squad and signed quarterback P.J. Walker to the practice squad.
Hurst has appeared in all 13 games this season, recording 22 tackles, 1.5 sacks, one interception, three passes defensed and one fumble recovery.
Kamara (6-foot-0, 272 pounds) is in his second NFL season out of Stony Brook. Originally signed by the Bears as an undrafted free agent in 2021, he’s appeared in nine career games. He has spent most of 2022 and 2023 on the Browns’ practice squad, appearing in one game in 2022. Kamara will wear No. 92.
Walker is back after going 1-1 in relief of Deshaun Watson, as well as coming off the bench late in the first quarter against the Colts to pull out the 39-38 victory. He’s appeared in six games with two starts for the Browns this season, throwing for 674 yards with one touchdown. In his career, he has appeared in 21 games with nine starts.
