Steelers QB Kenny Pickett ready to make a leap in Year Two

Steelers Predicted to Land Heisman Winner

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have a quarterback situation on their hands as they try to decide whether or not they’re going to give Kenny Pickett another season as the starter. The former first-round pick has struggled this year, forcing many analysts to predict Pittsburgh is looking for an alternative option in the offseason. One insider believes they do find another quarterback, but instead of a veteran, they’ll land a Heisman-winning rookie. CBS Sports’ Emory Hunt says the Steelers have several options for finding a quarterback this offseason, including names like Justin Fields, but if he had to guess, they find competition for Pickett through the NFL Draft by selecting LSU’s Jayden Daniels.

“Before everyone hopped on board with what I said in the summer, Jayden Daniels would have been perfect for where the Steelers were going to pick,” Hunt said. “That’s what was going to be my surprise first-round pick.” Daniels, who spent three years at Arizona State before finishing his college career with the Tigers, walked away as this year’s Heisman Trophy Winner over Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr., Washington’s Michael Penix and Oregon’s Bo Nix. He finished his career with 12,750 yards, 89 touchdowns and just 20 interceptions. He also rushed for 3,307 yards.

ESPN’s draft expert Kirk Herbstreit said earlier this season that Daniels is going to be the “steal of the draft.” The Steelers hope that’s the case if they do select him later in the first round.
