Leicester City Join Race For Former £15 Million Promotion Winner

Leicester City are set to battle it out with promotion-hopefuls Middlesbrough for Nottingham Forest outcast Joe Worrall ahead of the January transfer window, according to reports.

It was reported this past week by The Daily Mail that both club captain Worrall and centre-back Scott McKenna have been asked to train away from the first-team squad and arrive at different times to the rest of the side.

The news comes in the aftermath of four straight defeats endured by the Tricky Trees, including a 5-0 drubbing suffered at the hands of Fulham on Wednesday night which leaves Steve Cooper in limbo about his future at the City Ground.

TalkSPORT added to this, stating that the duo will be allowed to leave the club when the winter window opens in just a few weeks, with several clubs circling Worrall.

TeamTalk are reporting that Middlesbrough are keen to strengthen their backline ahead of the second half of the campaign but The Daily Mail have revealed that Boro now face hefty competition from runaway league leaders Leicester City.

The outlet are claiming that the Foxes have identified the centre-back position as an area that needs strengthening in January, with Worrall now top of the former Premier League champions’ list.

The 26-year-old has been with Nottingham Forest since 2011 and broke through the ranks in 2017. The skipper played a massive part in the team’s promotion back to the top-flight in 2022 for the first time in 23 years.

Worrall had previously been linked with a £15 million switch to Brentford two seasons ago but stayed put with his boyhood club. Now, it looks as though his time at the City Ground is coming to a bitter end but Worrall could potentially help Leicester return to the promised land.
