Throughout their rebuild, the Detroit Lions coaching staff has received a lot of accolades. Dan Campbell, the organization’s third-year coach, has become renowned for turning the tide, and its popularity is at an all-time high. However, the fact that Campbell acquired two quality coordinators in Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn is a huge element of the team’s success. Johnson has transformed the Lions’ offense into a top-five unit, and Glenn’s defense is the best it has been in three seasons. Though the Lions have a lot to play for in 2023, all eyes are on what comes after this season. When the offseason arrives, both Johnson and Glenn will be popular names on the head coaching market.
Both interviewed for head coaching jobs last season, with Glenn doing so for the second year in a row. Campbell has always been an advocate for his assistants, and he stated on Friday that the focus is beneficial to all parties concerned. “If people are curious about your staff and they are linked to a few things, that means we have a healthy program.” “That’s what it means,” Campbell explained. “That means you’re doing things correctly, in my opinion.” That is, indeed, a good thing. That’s what you desire. “But, on the other hand, we have a job to do.” This is the main point, the most significant item. “That will happen in about two months,” Campbell said. “But right now, man, keep your focus here, and our guys have done a good job of that, as have our coaches.” I know when things come up because my coaches let me know. I appreciate that, and we’re working on it, but it’s not a distraction.” When asked if Duke had approached him for the open head coaching post, running backs coach Scottie Montgomery did not respond. Montgomery was a part of the Duke coaching staff from 1996 to 1999.
“The one thing that I will say is that my family and especially my children, they enjoy the fact that we’re in the National Football League and our offseason is a lot different,” Montgomery said in a statement. “Our time, communication, and ability to grow as a family are all different, but there’s a lot to the business and how it operates.” So yes, I am a fan of the National Football League. I fought hard to get back here, and I’m thrilled to be not just in the National Football League, but also right here in Detroit.”
