Newcastle United vs. Manchester United anticipated lineup: one significant alteration despite key injury boost
Newcastle United team news, injury updates, and expected starting XI for their Premier League match against Manchester United.

When the two sides meet at St. James’ Park on Saturday night, Newcastle United will be hoping to leapfrog Manchester United in the Premier League table. The Magpies are now one spot and one point below the Red Devils, and a win on Tyneside this weekend might propel them to fifth, depending on other results.

Eddie Howe’s side thrashed Chelsea 4-1 in their previous league match, with goals from Alexander Isak, Jamaal Lascelles, Joelinton, and Anthony Gordon proving far too much for their visitors. However, fate conspired against them in the Champions League in midweek, with a disputed Paris Saint-Germain penalty denying them a famous victory in the French capital, leaving their dreams of qualifying for the finals in tatters.

Manchester United are now on a three-game winning streak in the Premier League, having defeated Everton in convincing fashion last weekend, due in part to an Alejandro Garnacho miracle goal. However, like Newcastle, they were forced to settle for a draw in Europe in midweek, with Andre Onana primarily to blame as Galatasaray rallied back to draw 3-3 in Turkey.

But how will both teams line up this weekend in the North East? We’ve looked at their individual team news and expected starting lineups below…

Newcastle United Team Information

Newcastle were without a slew of players in Paris last midweek, and their personnel difficulties are anticipated to persist for the foreseeable future. The Magpies will be without a number of key players, including Sandro Tonali, who is serving a 10-month sentence for alleged betting laws violations.

Dan Burn and Matt Targett are out with back and hamstring injuries, respectively, while wide receiver Jacob Murphy is out until the new year after dislocating his shoulder. Sven Botman is another.

However, it is not all doom and gloom on Tyneside; Sean Longstaff is expected to return after missing Newcastle’s last two games due to a swollen ankle, and Emil Krafth is in contention after missing the midweek trip to Paris owing to illness and ineligibility.

Newcastle United Predicted Starting XI

Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar, Jamaal Lascelles, Tino Livramento; Bruno Guimaraes, Sean Longstaff, Joelinton; Miguel Almiron, Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon.

Manchester United Team Information
Manchester United have a sprinkling of injury concerns to deal with this weekend, albeit not nearly as serious as Newcastle’s. Christian Eriksen, Casemiro, and Lisandro Martinez have all been absent for some time, while Mason Mount has a calf problem that should keep him out of the trip to Tyneside.

Jonny Evans and Tyrell Malacia remain doubts, while former Sunderland loanee Amad Diallo has yet to return after suffering a knee injury in preseason. Jadon Sancho is unavailable following a public spat with manager Erik ten Hag.

United Manchester XI predicted
Andre Onana; Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw; Scott McTominay, Kobbie Mainoo; Antony, Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford; Scott McTominay, Kobbie Mainoo;
