Titans’ New Defensive Coordinator Dennard Wilson Promises Aggressive Approach after he terminate his contract
Tennessee Titans newly-appointed defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson had a clear message for players, fans and the press. The now-look Tennessee defense will be an “attacking defense.”
After struggling to reach the playoffs over the previous two seasons, the organization has opted for change of direction with Brian Callahan replacing former head coach Mike Vrabel. Nick Holz has been hired as the offensive coordinator and Dennard Wilson will be trusted with building a championship defense.
Speaking via the Titans official website, the 41-year-old coach opened up about his strategy and what he envisions for this team.
“I can tell you this about the scheme, and I learned this a long time ago, General George Patton said this: ‘Nobody ever defended anything successfully. You are going to attack, and attack some more,’” said Wilson.
Wilson emphasized building a scheme that suits the players he has on his roster. Blitzing and creating turnover will be a big focus for the new coach as he looks to transform a defense that finished last in interceptions in 2023.
“We are going to be an attacking defense. We are going to be violent in our approach. We are going to be smart, we are going to be intelligent,” added Wilson.
The former Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles coach has had great success as a defensive backs coach in 2022 and 2023. He helped guide the Ravens to a 13-4 record last year and was a member of the 2022 Eagles side that reached the Super Bowl.
The Titans finished last in the AFC South last season with a 6-11 record conceding 21.6 points per game over the regular season.
