NFL Odds: Titans-Jaguars prediction, pick, how to watch - 1/7/2023

The Jacksonville Jaguars in Battle with Titans over the world class Offensive Coordinator who could be an interested and important replacement for the….

For the second year in a row, a rival AFC South team is hiring a Jacksonville Jaguars coach as offensive coordinator. A year after Jim Bob Cooter was poached by the Colts, the Jaguars will now be losing passing game coordinator Nick Holz to the Tennessee Titans, where he will reunite with Brian Callahan.

Holz spent the 2023 season as the Jaguars’ passing game coordinator, where he worked closely with offensive coordinator Press Taylor. It was Holz’s first season with the Jaguars, where he replaced former passing game coordinator Jim Bob Cooter. The Jaguars had high expectations for their passing offense in 2023, but it failed to reach most marks. Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence threw fewer touchdowns, threw more interceptions, took more sacks, and had a lower net yards per pass attempt than he did in 2022 under Taylor, Cooter and head coach Doug Pederson.

To date, the only members of the Jaguars’ 2023 offensive staff who are not set to return are Holz, running backs coach Bernie Parmalee and assistant offensive line coach Todd Washington. Washington’s contract expired, while Parmalee was fired. “I’m not a coach. Those are questions for coach [Head Coach Doug Pederson]. I think if I look at it from a big picture, create an identity,” Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke said last week when asked about the offensive issues in 2023. “Who are we? Offensively, defensively, special teams, I felt we did that towards the end of last year, I’m not so sure we got to that point this year. That’s number one, you’ve got to have an identity. Who are you?”

The Jacksonville Jaguars saw tight end Evan Engram make a big impact in this year’s Pro Bowl Games.

In Engram’s first Pro Bowl as a Jaguar, the veteran tight end caught a touchdown from Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Keenan Allen on a double-pass, though the NFC still came out on top in a 64-59 win.

“My competitive juices definitely got going. I wanted to play the whole game. I wanted to keep playing. I definitely got really into it,” Engram told Florida Times-Union’s Juston Lewis.

“So it was a great time and event. Just playing with these guys and running around with them, you know, just hanging out with the best talent in the league, I definitely enjoyed it.”

Engram was the second tight end in franchise history to be named to the Pro Bowl, joining TE Marcedes Lewis (2010), and the 35th Pro Bowler in franchise history.

Engram was also joined this week by Jaguars outside linebacker Josh Allen and Jaguars long snapper Ross Matiscik, who attended their second and first Pro Bowl games respectively.

In 2023, Engram posted 114 receptions for 963 receiving yards and four touchdowns. His 114 catches led all NFL tight ends and he also set franchise records for receptions and receiving yards in a season by a tight end. Engram became the eighth tight end in NFL history and the first tight end in franchise history to eclipse 100 receptions. This is Engram’s second appearance in the Pro Bowl after being named to the team following the 2020 season.
