Oldham striker Kurt Willoughby looks to regain scoring touch on loan at Ayr United

The hotshot found the net 27 times last season and was not short of summer suitors, and is now looking to find his form again on loan at Somerset.

Kurt Willoughby insists he’s brought his shooting boots to Somerset Park in a bid to put his name back on the footballing map.

The new Ayr United striker was a goal machine as he burst the net 27 times for Chester in England’s National League North last season – making him a wanted man. Willoughby opted for a move to Oldham Athletic in the summer where, despite lofty expectations, his game time has been limited.

A deadline day loan move to join Scott Brown’s revolution has given the frontman renewed purpose – and he is adamant he will grab the opportunity to prove any doubters wrong.

Willoughby told the Ayrshire Post: “I always back myself to score goals and proved that last season when things really clicked for me. I got the 27 goals last season playing through the middle and I like to think my natural game is about being in the right place at the right time.

“I’ve definitely not played as much as I would have liked this season, so this is a big opportunity for me. I spoke to a few people who have been up here and know the club and they spoke very highly of it. Alex Kenyon is someone I know and he was obviously here for a time as a player and was very complimentary.”
