Leeds United in advanced talks to sign Daiki Hashioka with January signing finally set for completion

Leeds United are set to add right-back Daiki Hashioka to Daniel Farke’s squad at Elland Road, according to HBVL.

The Belgian news outlet reported online (28 January) that negotiations between the Whites and the Jupiler Pro League side are well advanced, with Hashioka not expected to feature in his side’s clash with Racing Genk on Sunday (28 January) due to injury.

Luton Town were also interested in the 24-year-old, but the Japan international’s preference was to make the switch to Leeds United

The Sint-Truidense V.V defender was an option for Racing Genk but opted for a move to England.

This would be a fine addition to Farke’s squad at Thorp Arch and a real sign that the club’s ownership are willing to back the German in his bid to help Leeds make an instant return to England’s top flight.

Hashioka’s decision to turn down a move to the Premier League in favour of a move to Elland Road demonstrates the pulling power the club still possess. The defender is an international with seven caps for Japan who will bring a high level of experience as the club fights for automatic promotion from the Championship.

He has so far scored twice and provided two assists in the Belgian league this season, and the fact that he was on the radar of a team such as Genk with European pedigree suggests he is a talented player who can offer Farke a different option at right-back.
