How far Manchester City are off breaking landmark Arsenal all-time Premier League record

Manchester City left it late against Wolves but won 2-1 at Molineux to keep the pressure on Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.

John Stones popped up right at the death to score a header from a corner.

The goal was controversial due to the position of Bernardo Silva. Bernardo had been positioned in front of goalkeeper Jose Sa, but moved off him as Stones headed the ball.

It was eventually deemed that the Portuguese was not interfering with play, and the goal was given.

Pundits Daniel Sturridge and Micah Richards disagreed over the goal, and there has been plenty of talk about it since the end of the game.Manchester City were not at their best at Molineux, and continue to miss the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Rodri.

But Pep Guardiola’s side showed their character, and proved why they have been champions for the last four years.

Despite not being at their best, City avoided defeat against Wolves and that means they have now set a new club record

With that victory against Wolves, City are now a whopping 31 games unbeaten in the Premier League. They have now surpassed their previous longest unbeaten run of 30 games, which took place from 2017-2018.

The last time City lost in the Premier League was against Aston Villa on 6 December 2023, when Leon Bailey scored in a 1-0 result at Villa Park.

The game was a reality check for City. They were without Rodri that night through suspension, but City would find their mojo once he came back.

With Arsenal and Liverpool both looking strong, it was vital that City went on a run from that point on and in the end, they won the league by just two points.

Kevin De Bruyne has also been missing for a number of weeks now, and Phil Foden – last season’s Player of the Year – has been getting up to speed after a late return.

It is a remarkable run that City are on, but there is still a way to go if the club are to create Premier League history.

In terms of the longest-ever unbeaten runs in the Premier League, it’s Arsenal who sit top.

They went 49 games unbeaten which stretched over three seasons, finally ending in 2004.
