Former Wrexham midfielder Anthony Barry joins Thomas Tuchel’s England staff

England have now appointed a new manager and one former Wrexham midfielder has joined the coaching staff.

The international break is finally coming to an end but one story is dominating the scene.

No, it’s not Craig Bellamy’s promising start as Wales boss, but rather the saga surrounding the England job.

Interim boss Lee Carsley looked to be in pole position for the job before an embarrassing defeat to Greece last week.

The FA have now gone elsewhere and have gone for a foreign manager with Thomas Tuchel their new choice.

The German will take his first step into international management just months after leaving Bayern Munich.

Former Wrexham ace lands England job

Tuchel’s move is a major change from the Gareth Southgate era as England go for a big name in the dugout.

The former Chelsea boss will be looking to form a strong coaching team around him, and includes one former Wrexham midfielder.

England have confirmed Tuchel’s arrival whilst also announcing the appointment of Anthony Barry.

Barry is one of Tuchel’s most trusted lieutenants having worked together at Chelsea and Bayern Munich.

The reunion has now been confirmed and FA CEO Mark Bullingham has praised Barry’s arrival.

“We are thrilled to have hired Thomas Tuchel, one of the best coaches in the world and Anthony Barry who is one of the best English coaches to support him,” said Bullingham.

The Liverpudlian spent most of his playing career in the lower leagues but now has a chance to coach for his country.

That is a huge step for Barry, whose playing career ended with Bullingham. just over seven years ago.

Barry has admitted that this is the ‘pinnacle’ for his coaching career and jumped at the chance to work for Tuchel once again.

“For any Englishman in football, working with the national team is the pinnacle and I didn’t hesitate when Thomas asked me to come and join him again. I know what a great place St. George’s Park is and how much of an advantage it gives our England teams, and the support it gives to coaches,” said Barry.

“This squad is very talented and have done so much to bring the country together, I look forward to meeting and working with them on this exciting project,” he added.
