Scott Wharton: Blackburn Rovers defender extends deal until 2027 - BBC Sport

Fresh claims made over 22-year-old star’s future at Blackburn Rovers

Blackburn Rovers are no closer to agreeing a new deal with Tyrhys Dolan and he is increasingly likely to assess his options as a free agent, as per the Lancashire Telegraph.

Blackburn Rovers have had Dolan on the books for a little over four years now, bringing him in as a youngster after he was let go by Lancashire rivals Preston North End.

The 22-year-old has been a regular in the Championship ever since, playing 173 times for Rovers overall. In that time he has managed 20 goals and 19 assists for the club while being capped by England U20s on two occasions.

Questions have long surrounded the future of the versatile forward though. A clause was triggered to keep him beyond the end of last season but that only keeps him contracted to the club until 2025.

Now, amid previous claims Blackburn Rovers were set to make Dolan’s situation a priority, the Lancashire Telegraph states there has been no further progress on the bid to keep him at Ewood Park.

They state he is increasingly likely to weigh up his options as a free agent next year. Thankfully, there would be compensation due if he was to exit at the end of his contract, but it seems real doubt surrounds his future.

Preparing for an exit

With the Dolan saga dragging on and on, it has felt increasingly likely that his long-term future lays away from Blackburn Rovers.

There have been disruptions along the way such as injury and focus on last year’s survival fight, but if all parties involved were committed to finding a deal, you would think an agreement would have been reached by now given how long they have dragged on.

As such, Dolan will likely start to eye routes out of Ewood Park while Blackburn Rovers consider their next move. He will need replacing, so it wouldn’t hurt to start getting some names in mind.

Other out of contract players

With the Dolan saga seemingly set to peter out, Blackburn Rovers will have other contract decisions to weigh up.

All of Kyle McFadzean, Andi Weimann, Danny Batth, Dom Hyam, Ryan Hedges, Arnor Sigurdsson, Joe Hilton and Jack Barrett also see their deals expire at the end of the current campaign.
