Preston North End man and more: 3 stars out of contract in 2025 Stoke City should target in January

Stoke City turned to former Huddersfield Town and Norwich City man Narcis Pelach as their new head coach last month.

Stoke City made the decision to cut ties with Steven Schumacher in a surprise move.

They are currently sat in 17th place in the Championship following their 0-0 draw away at Swansea City before the international.

The Potters are aiming to rise up the table over the coming weeks and months and are back in action on 19th October with a home clash against Norwich City. In the meantime, here is a look at three players who are out of contract in 2025 who they should target…

John Swift – West Brom

He would inject more quality into Stoke City’s attacking ranks and would give them more competition and depth going forward. His contract at West Brom runs out next year and he is due to become available for nothing as things stand.

Swift, 29, joined the Baggies back in 2022 having previously been at Chelsea and Reading. He has made 90 appearances since joining the Midlands outfit and has scored 16 goals, nine of which came in the last campaign.

Jordan Storey – Preston North End

The centre-back would help tighten up the Potters’ defensive department if they were able to lure him to the Bet365 Stadium. He would be a shrewd pick-up this winter.

Storey has played just under 200 matches for the Lilywhites since joining them as a youngster from Exeter City and is experienced in the second tier now. He also had a loan spell away at Sheffield Wednesday a couple of years ago.
