Green Bay Packers Decide To Let Go of Player Who Got Injured in Week 5

The Green Bay Packers coming off a big  24-19 win in Inglewood over the Los Angeles Rams last Sunday to improve their record to 3-2. In that game, the Packers saw defensive back  Robert Rochell suffer a stinger injury. While he eventually did not get an injury designation on Monday, the Packers still decided to release him.

The Green Bay Packers have released CB Robert Rochell (roh-SHELL). General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transaction Monday.

Rochell was on the Packers’ practice squad the entire season before being signed to the active roster on Saturday. He has appeared in three games for Green Bay this season, two as a gameday elevation.

The 26-year-old Rochell has been active in three Packers games in the 2024 NFL season but has only seen a total of 34 – snaps on the field all with the special teams.

There seems to be a good chance that the Packers will sign him to their practice squad again. He is still eligible for one more elevation from the practice squad. If he gets called up a fourth time, he will have to be signed to a regular roster, per NFL rules.

Rochell entered the NFL in 2021 when he was taken in the fourth round of that year’s NFL draft by the Rams. After two seasons with Los Angeles, Rochell had practice squad stints with the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers before landing a one-year deal with the Packers worth $1.055 million last March, according to Spotrac.

In 40 games in his NFL career so far, Rochell has four passes defended and an interception.

Lambeau Field will host an NFL Week 6 matchup between the Arizona Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon. The Arizona Cardinals are placed second in the NFC West with a current 2-3 record. On the other hand, the Green Bay Packers are fourth in the NFC North with 3-2 on the season. The Cardinals are hoping to build on their win against San Francisco last time out. However, the Green Bay Packers are favored to win this Sunday.
