Could Raiders Swing an Aaron Rodgers Trade With Jets in Disarray?

We’re getting ready to head into Week 6 of the NFL season, and the Raiders have had more ups and downs than a roller coaster up to this point in the season. Now it seems the Raiders could have another major hurdle ahead of them as they prepare to play the Pittsburgh Steelers in Las Vegas. Justin Fields has been the starting quarterback for the Steelers this year after being traded to the team from the Chicago Bears for a 2025 conditional draft pick. Fields wasn’t the only major offseason addition by the Steelers; in fact, he wasn’t even the first quarterback. The Steelers traded for Fields after they had already signed former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Russel Wilson in free agency. Coming into the season the thought was that Wilson would be the starter, but he has been sidelined for the first five games of the season. All of this while the Steelers defense and Fields have led them to a 3-2 record.

Fast forward to Week 6 and it looks like there’s a chance Wilson could be making his first appearance of the season against the Raiders as reported by Brooke Pryor of ESPN.

The Steelers’ head coach Mike Tomlin has not commented much on this situation, if at all, he is historically a man of few words. However, with Wilson returning to practice this week he had no choice but to comment. “The fact that he’s a full participant is a door that’s ajar,” Tomlin said. “But to say any more than that is to speculate, because he’s got to get through the day, he’s got to show up on Thursday and see where the roads lead us.”

If the Steelers managed to be 5-0 at this point building off of their hot 3-0 start there would be no question Fields would be the starter moving forward. Now having dropped their last two games and falling to 3-2 overall, there is a chance that bringing Wilson into the lineup is a real possibility. Let’s not forget the Raiders currently do not have a favorable record playing against

quarterbacks making their first start of the season, if you can remember how Andy Dalton shredded them in Week 3. Whether or not Wilson will be the starter against the Raiders remains to be seen. As of now, Wilson will be taking reps with the second team in practice, according to Tomlin, so as not to disrupt the routine of Fields
